October usually signals the influx of pumpkin spice and a whole lot of chaotic energy with the incoming holiday season that can have our hearts, to-do list, and calendars feeling overwhelmed.
The last quarter of 2022 is a great time to start reflecting on your annual resolutions that you achieved, are in the process of achieving, or adding to next year’s list. Conversations in the workplace and in your personal life might start centering around new goals for 2023 even though it literally feels like yesterday was January. But fear not because BTC put together a list of practices that will keep you grounded as we *hopefully* end 2022 on a high note.
Rest
Rest is the holy grail of practices. It’s 2022, and that means if it’s not a HELL YES, then it’s a no. Start protecting your time, energy, and attention because when we don’t protect ourselves and honor our boundaries, we deplete to the point where we have nothing left to give.
“There is no more hard. We don’t need toughness and going hard no more. We need softness, care, community, and collective healing,” said Tricia Hersey, founder of the organization The Nap Ministry, on Glennon Doyle’s We Can Do Hard Things Podcast.
Shoutout to Madeline Stanley in the San Diego BTC Group for sharing this podcast episode where she and Tricia Hersey advocate for tapping the rest button harder than ever before.
Meditate
This 10-minute guided meditation will ease your stress. Apps like InsightTimer (free & join our BTC community for the best daily meditations) and Headspace ($69.99/year but get 14 FREE days now!) are great when you’re on the go and in need of a moment or two.
Recharge
If your internal battery is flashing red, it’s time for a Recharge. Between the Covers Recharge is a wellness getaway where we stop indulging in the things that drain us and start participating in the things that energize us.
Lucky for you Recharge Montana will be released in mid-October and Recharge Oregon in mid-November. Pro tip: Set up your notifications on Patreon to be the first to book your spot (we release to the Trailblazers tier first). They fill fast and usually sell out within minutes!
Friends
When our calendars fill up, we tend to leave out things that truly fuel us. Things like friendships. That post-bestie meetup high is REAL, or is that just me?! I set a personal benchmark of meeting up with 1-2 friends a week, but listen, you can get crafty with these plans so you’re killing two birds with one stone. This means we’re taking an early morning walk, doing an evening yoga class together, or co-working at a local coffee shop. Healthy habits 🤝 friendship maintenance.
Playlists
Never underestimate the power of a badass playlist. Whether you’re in the shower, on your daily commute, or getting ready for the day, good tunes will positively influence your energy levels for the day. Right now, we’re obsessed with the De Todo Playlist in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, but Low-Fi Beats never miss either. And yes, we have our own BTC Good Vibes playlist too!
Bestie! We’re in this together.
Don’t forget the importance of showing up and connecting with humans. BTC was built to cultivate a supportive, inclusive community, so if you’re feeling overwhelmed, tap in. We’re here for you.
